Major Areas of Interest

The Hall Family Foundation concentrates its philanthropic efforts on five areas of interest in the Greater Kansas City area:

Education: The Foundation has an interest in programs that enhance or promote excellence in elementary, secondary and higher education. Programs that address the educational needs of urban school children, and efforts and initiatives emphasizing systemic reform in public schools are a high priority.

Children, Youth and Families: The Foundation has a strong interest in improving the lives of children, youth and families. The Foundation values programs that improve child well-being, expand youth services and respond to families’ physical and emotional health needs.

The Arts: The Foundation gives highest priority to grants that encourage excellence in the community’s performing and visual arts organizations. The Foundation is interested in programs that enhance quality, strengthen management, broaden existing funding bases and increase audience development.

Community Development: The Foundation is interested in programs and initiatives that help prevent or overcome deterioration of the urban core and its neighborhoods. Comprehensive redevelopment efforts that help stabilize these areas are a priority.

Additional Interests: Included in this category is Foundation support of community-wide efforts that seek to provide long-term solutions to local issues of high priority.

The board and staff continually re-evaluate the areas of interest described above, narrowing and redefining objectives to assure they remain relevant to community needs. However, ideas of unique merit, even though outside the boundaries of our interests, can be considered.
